Ellen Lapke

Gillette College Foundation’s Scholar Spotlight!

Ellen Lapke is a recipient of the Boundless Opportunity Scholarship through the Gillette College Foundation.

Ellen has been in Gillette since 1971.  She has one son and four grandchildren.  Ellen obtained her GED through the college in 2017 and is now majoring in business administration.  She is on track to graduate in May 2019.  The next step in her education includes a CPA.  She is planning on obtaining her bachelors in accounting, possibly through MSU.

The scholarship Ellen received has helped her tremendously, allowing her to further her education as a “non-traditional” student.  In her time with Gillette College, she has gained confidence in her own abilities, realizing she can do anything she puts her mind to and nothing is impossible.  It had been 30 years since Ellen had been in school and she will have obtained her GED and associate’s degree in just over 2 years.  What an accomplishment!

Ellen encourages other students to follow their dreams, to stick to them and not to give up.

Her favorite thing about being a Gillette College student is all the great instructors, specifically Joyce Schaedler.  Ellen had Joyce as an instructor for Business Law and Accounting and credits her as being an “awesome teacher, knowledgeable, and pushing her the hardest to succeed.”

The Gillette College Foundation is proud to feature Ellen Lapke.
