Kayla Olson

Gillette College Foundation’s Scholar Spotlight!

Meet Kayla Olson, recipient of the Nancy and Robert Sorenson Scholarship through the Gillette College Foundation.

Kayla is from Gillette and enjoys reading, writing and playing video games.  She is in her first year with Gillette College, working on obtaining her degree in psychology.  The next step in her education will be a four year university, possibly with Black Hills State in Spearfish, South Dakota.  In the next 10 years, she sees herself with a steady career, a house with a dog, and a published novel.

The scholarship Kayla received has helped her pay for her classes, allowing her to attend Gillette College where she has improved her networking skills, her time management and has gotten to know her professors well.  Some words of advice Kayla offered for other students was, “Learn to study.  Find another way if something isn’t working.  If you don’t have a plan, explore what you love.”

Kayla’s favorite Pronghorn experiences have centered around the “awesome professors”, specifically Lisa Arhart and Michael Carver.  “They make class fun so you don’t dread going,” she stated.

The Gillette College Foundation is excited to see where Kayla’s path leads – and we are really looking forward to reading that novel!  We are proud to present Kayla Olson as our Scholar Spotlight of the week!
