Meet Samantha Power

Gillette College Foundation’s Scholar Spotlight!

Meet Samantha Power, recipient of three Gillette College Foundation Scholarships: the Advisory Board Endowed Scholarship, the Gillette College Directors and Trustees Endowed Scholarship, and the Alpha Nu Psi Chapter E/PTK Scholarship.

Sam is a sophomore at Gillette College, currently completing her general courses in preparation for the next step in her education, which includes a degree in Communication Science and Disorders from a four-year university.  Sam came to us from Mandan, North Dakota.  She never thought a community college was in her future, but Gillette College provided her an opportunity to play soccer, a lifelong love of Sam’s.

In addition to soccer, Sam has seized several other opportunities in her time as a Pronghorn.  She is extremely involved in student activities.  Sam is the Student Senate President, and is involved with Phi Theta Kappa, the National Society of Leadership and Success, Gillette College Student Ambassadors, the Student Activities Board, the Science Association, and the Dance Team, to name a few.  She also holds two student employee positions within the college.  In her limited spare time, she also enjoys a good book.

The scholarships Sam has earned have allowed her to focus on her education without the financial burden, ultimately putting her on the path to helping others at the end of her education.  Her ultimate goal is to be a speech pathologist, with an emphasis on helping children with speech disorders.  Current top contenders for completing her education are the University of Wyoming, the University of Vermont or Springfield College in Massachusetts.  In 10 years, Sam hopes to be living a life dedicated to serving others, and is open-minded to what that may look like.

Gillette College has provided necessary tools for Samantha to transform into a “completely different person.”  Sam has grown in confidence, leadership and networking abilities.  She is more equipped for volunteering, capable of advocating for others, and feels as though she has become more of a well-rounded person overall who is “ready to take on anything!”

Her words of advice for other students is to be involved and take advantage of all opportunities offered.  “They are endless here,” she said.  When asked her favorite thing (experience, person, event, etc.) about being a Gillette College Student, she first exclaimed, “Doug Dumbrill!”  She went on to say the Pronghorn Pride – the school spirit and the support from athletics, to academics, to administration and everyone in between – has been second to none and she always feels she has the resources she needs to be successful in any aspect of her life.  “But also, Doug,” she added.

We are proud to showcase Samantha Power as a Gillette College Foundation scholarship recipient!
