Mikkael Chick

Gillette College Foundation’s Scholar Spotlight!

Meet Mikkael Chick, recipient of the John and Aline Mankin Scholarship through the Gillette College Foundation.

Mikkael is a Gillette, Wyoming native, with roots tied back to Gillette’s very first doctor!  She is currently completing her general studies with Gillette College with plans to transfer to the University of Wyoming in the spring of 2020.  Mikkael is ultimately pursuing a degree in chemistry.  She hasn’t yet decided how she will utilize this degree, but is interested in the stability and opportunities that reside in the food and energy industries, as well as cosmetics and a variety of other pathways.

The scholarship Mikkael received has allowed her to be able to afford an education.  She has had to work less hours to focus on her schooling and homework.  The scholarship has allowed her to do so with much less financial stress.

In her time at Gillette College, Mikkael has enjoyed working in the Student Help Zone.  She is able to find answers to a variety of issues for students and has learned to utilize her resources.  She has enjoyed meeting others in the community with the same passion for learning and similar work ethics.  Her words of advice for other students is not to procrastinate.  “The more you can get done ahead of time, the better,” she said. She also encourages students to take the initiative.  “No one is going to hold your hand, but everyone is willing to help if you ask for it.”

Mikkael’s favorite thing about being a Gillette College student is how there is always an activity going on for students to enjoy.  She appreciates the camaraderie and the opportunity to socialize and meet those outside of her regular classes.

The Gillette College Foundation proudly presents Mikkael Chick as the focus of this week’s Scholar Spotlight!
