Gillette College Foundation’s Scholar Spotlight!
Meet Nicholas Andrews, recipient of the Gary Tarver Memorial Scholarship.
Nick was born and raised in Gillette, Wyoming. He is a Navy veteran of over 11 years, where he then went to the oilfield for about 3.5 years before deciding he wanted to pursue his dreams of owning a ranch and opening an agronomy plant. He is majoring in Agricultural Business and Rangeland Management, and will graduate from Gillette College in spring 2020. He is currently the President of the Student Veterans Association and the Vice President for the Gillette College Science Club. He is also running for the next Student Senate President position. He plans to pursue his bachelors in Agronomy at MSU and continue all the way through to his doctorate! In the next 10 years, Nick sees himself back in Gillette with his dreams fulfilled.
The scholarship Nick received has helped him pay for his books. “Books are expensive in college!” he laughed. He also has enjoyed building his professional library with these books.
In his time at Gillette College, aside from learning in his degree studies, Nick has enhanced his networking skills. His advice for upcoming students is to “pursue your dreams.” In fact, one of Nick’s favorite thing about being a Pronghorn is the willingness of students and faculty to help pursue your dreams. He specifically noted Jamie Eberly’s efforts in contributing to the availability of two agriculture degrees to Gillette College, giving the agriculture and rodeo students something to strive for other than general studies.
The Gillette College Foundation is proud to feature Gillette native Nicholas Andrews in this week’s Scholar Spotlight!
